Description

The Legal Update will address the past year’s key employment decisions, legislation, and their impact on workplace misconduct investigations. We will review significant cases that enable participants to identify and understand how to best apply new laws and legal principles in their professional work. 

Participants will be able to:

  • Analyze key employment law decisions and legislative developments from the past year that affect workplace misconduct investigations.
  • Identify and interpret emerging legal principles and requirements relevant to conducting fair, effective, and legally compliant workplace investigations.
  • Apply recent case law and legislative changes to real-world workplace investigation scenarios to support informed professional decision-making and risk management. 

All registrants will have acces to a recording of the webinar 48 hours after the live program.

Ms. Ablin has extensive employment law experience working with both employers and employees. Prior to starting Ablin Law, she worked for over 19 years as in-house employment counsel for Walgreens. She is on the Webinar Committee for the Association of Workplace Investigations.

Dr. Dwayne E. Smith, AWI-CH is an External Attorney Investigator and Founder of Workplace Law Solutions. 
 
Workplace Law Solutions specializes in providing comprehensive legal services and consulting in areas such as workplace investigations, education consulting, and collegiate athlete representation.  
 
Workplace Law Solutions provides independent workplace investigations on behalf of employers regarding allegations of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and professional misconduct.   
 
Dwayne was the Director of Compliance with Liberty Public Schools (LPS) from 2018-2024.  He was the district designee for Civil Rights Investigations, for Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, Section 504 and ADA for purposes of ensuring compliance with federal and state law as well as board policy. Dwayne conducted over one hundred (100) internal investigations during his time at LPS. 
 
Dwayne spent ten years as a high school administrator and prior to becoming an educator, eighteen years in the private sector in the areas of Product Management and Contract Negotiations and a former Jackson County (Missouri), Assistant Prosecuting Attorney.   
 
Dwayne is an adjunct professor at Saint Louis University, School of Education, teaching Advanced School Law. He is licensed to practice law in Missouri and Kansas. 
 
Dwayne is a member of the Society of Human Resources (SHRM – SCP) and the Association of Workplace Investigators (AWI-CH) and holds certificates with both organizations.
